How To: build your own XLR cables
In this video, Nick takes us through how to build the Glasshouse XLR Balanced Interconnect Cable Kit No. 14. First, he builds an unshielded variant - perfect for shorter lengths - using Switchcraft plugs, Amtrams OFC triple 0.4mm wire, and then a shielded version for those longer cable runs adding BTube 3 and 12mm ABS sleeving. Building your own cables is a great way to acquire high-end quality at budget prices, and the same knowledge can be used to fix cables if they break. XLR connectors are less common in hifi audio than in recording studios, but they offer a high quality, balanced signal that can run long lengths.
