Glasshouse / Elma 4-pole 24-way switch / Balanced Stereo Shunt Stepped Attenuator

The Elma 04-4133 is a make-before-break type, 4-pole 24-way switch. So, it features one more step than its 23-step counterparts. It is Swiss-made and has a quality feel. It is a non-magnetic-bodied switch with 3-micron gold-plated contacts over copper alloy. All contacts are enclosed to avoid noisy contacts caused by dust.

This version offers 24 volume positions from mute to near total volume through our tried-and-tested 2dB step values of resistors. The switch's front does possess a "non-turn" lug of 3mm squared that protrudes from the front panel, close to the bush. See the datasheet below. If not required, this can be removed with a file.

We offer the option to choose from 16 different resistor types for this kit.

SERIES/LOAD RESISTOR FOR SHUNT TYPE

 The series/load resistor of the shunt stepped attenuator range is worth discussing. All the signal passes through this resistor no matter your position on your volume control. So, this resistor is worth an upgrade. A popular choice is the Charcroft Z-Foil range or Audio Note Non-Magnetic Tantalum. If you wish to upgrade them, add them to your cart. x1 for a each mono, x2 for a stereo and x4 for a balanced. Choose the resistance close to the impedance of the stepped attenuator you buy. For example, for a Stereo Shunt 50K, you would have to add 2 off the CART 50K000B: 50K 0.4W Charcroft Z-Foil Resistor. If you are ordering a built version, mention in the comments box that you wish to have them fitted.

We can only supply the 10K, 20K and 25K options for the Charcroft Z-Foil type.
