Glasshouse / Elma 4-pole 47-way switch / Balanced Stereo Shunt Stepped Attenuator
Here we have the 47-step, stereo attenuator featuring Elma`s A47-SERB4-THT, 4-pole 47-way Switch for those who like a lot of control. As we have come to expect from Elma, this is a high-quality switch with extremely durable 3-micron gold-plated contacts throughout. The switch utilises a PCB to make your connections. It is a shorting, make-before-break type.
This board was initially designed as a series-type attenuator, but it can also be used as a shunt-type stepped. The build is trickier than the 23 and 24-step. Finer soldering is needed, and a lot more soldering is required, with around 368 joins per switch.
Although the switch is space efficient, we can reduce its width and height with the 0.25 Watt version. However, you must request a COMPACT build in the comments box.
We offer the option to choose from 16 different resistor types for this kit.
SERIES/LOAD RESISTOR FOR SHUNT TYPE
The series/load resistor of the shunt stepped attenuator range is worth discussing. All the signal passes through this resistor no matter your position on your volume control. So, this resistor is worth an upgrade. A popular choice is the Charcroft Z-Foil range or Audio Note Non-Magnetic Tantalum. If you wish to upgrade them, add them to your cart. x1 for a each mono, x2 for a stereo and x4 for a balanced. Choose the resistance close to the impedance of the stepped attenuator you buy. For example, for a Stereo Shunt 50K, you would have to add 2 off the CART 50K000B: 50K 0.4W Charcroft Z-Foil Resistor. If you are ordering a built version, mention in the comments box that you wish to have them fitted.

For the 100K 0.25W and 0.5W Takman Metal & Carbon versions, we supply 91K load resistors.
For the 10K 0.25W and 0.5W Takman Metal & Carbon versions, we supply a 10K 1W load resistor.
We can only supply the 10K option for the Charcroft Z-Foil type.
