Dalby Audio Design GRAF SDD8 Silver / Copper 8 core screened cable (0.25m)

Following their successful DAL-320S and DAL-620S, Dalby has created another high-end offering—the GRAF SDD8 signal cable.

The new interconnect cable comprises four screened pairs of 0.71 mm diameter pure silver over annealed copper wire. Each of the eight solid core conductors is insulated by medical FEP polymer, which has a very low dielectric constant and is far superior to Teflon PTFE.

The choice of Insulation on high-resolution cables is as crucial as the conductor itself. This is due to the electrical interaction between the cable insulation's inner surface and the conductor's outer surface, known as the skin effect.

Using pure silver as an outer surface over the copper conductor creates a better balance and a natural presentation than silver-plated copper offerings, which can sound ‘pinched and hard’.

The normal silver-plating process on copper cables creates a negative chemical reaction, creating a diode effect between the thin silver micron plate and the copper surface.

Dalby sees no value in using such a cable as the balance then peaks towards the higher midrange and lower high frequency range. For this reason, silver-plated wires should be avoided at all costs.

Furthermore, Dalby cryogenically DCT treat their DIY cables with their own ‘time duration’ process, which is calculated using the golden ratio formula. This Dalby secret makes their cables sound beautifully unique.

The GRAF SDD8 cable can be used as an RCA to RCA interconnect, an XLR balanced interconnect, or a speaker cable (for low-powered amplifiers).

The cable comprises a durable outer maroon brown cable with woven polyester sleeving, followed by an unplated copper screening braid with a nickel-plated copper drain. All conductors are wrapped in copper foil, and each pair of conductors is wrapped in aluminium foil. Cotton filler is internal.

The overall diameter is 8.75mm, each conductor is 0.71mm, and 1mm in diameter, with a medical grade FEP covering.

How to wire

Interconnect cable:

  • 2 x pairs, brown + clear, orange + clear for the signal (hot +)
  • 2 x pairs, blue + clear, green + clear for the earth (cold -)
  • copper screen and drain connected to the earth (cold -) at the source end ONLY - OPTIONAL

XLR cable:

  • 1 x pair, green + clear for pin 1 Ground
  • 2 x pairs, brown + clear, orange + clear for pin 2 (hot +)
  • 1 x pair blue + clear for pin 3 (cold  -)
  • copper screen and drain connected to the body of the plug at the source end ONLY - OPTIONAL

Speaker cable:

  • 2 x pairs, brown + clear, orange + clear for the signal (hot +)
  • 2 x pairs, blue + clear, green + clear for the earth (cold -)
  • copper screen and drain connected to the earth (cold -) at the source end ONLY - OPTIONAL

Or, for the ultimate high-end speaker cable, use one length for the positive and one for the negative, using all four pairs of conductors joined together for each length.
At the source end of both lengths, isolate the copper screen and drain and join them together into a spade, which you insert into the negative amplifier speaker post. At the speaker end, cut short the copper screen and drain of both lengths and isolate.

Sold in 0.25m multiples, we supply in a continuous length, so if you require 1m, please order 4 off. Sold as a mono cable, for a 1m stereo pair, 2 metres (8 off) are required.
